Conrad's uncle tells 12 year old Conrad Tesdinic that his total, terrible luck is the result of very bad karma that, within the year, could threaten his very existence ! Shocking ! He's packed off to Stallery Mansions, to work in disguise, as a servant. There, in the magical fortress, he must infiltrate its workings and hunt out whoever has interfered with his fate !
